Late Bloomers will join October 8 Song & Story Swap

Please come share in an evening of music and stories at the October Pioneer Valley Folklore Society SONG & STORY SWAP.

Late Bloomers at Black Sheep in Amherst on Oct. 8

Friday, October 8, 7:30-9:30 p.m. at the Black Sheep Café, 79 Main St., Amherst, Mass.

Guest performers at the October 8 Song & Story Swap will be the southern Maine-based folk guitar duo, Late Bloomers.

Randy Browning and Brett Kinney met as students at Boston's Berklee College of Music. Faced with staggering debt after graduation, they report that “folk music seemed the only logical path.”

The pair relocated to the north and began touring and recording together. The collaboration has borne fruit, as can be heard in their two well-received CDs. Their most recent recording, Sneakin' In The Back Door, is peppered with sparkling lyrics and stellar instrumentals. Metronome Magazine has remarked on their “exquisite guitar picking, soaring arrangements and an incredibly wonderful tone... Truly remarkable... Bravo!”

More information about Late Bloomers may be found at their web site, http://www.latebloomersmusic.com.

The warm-up theme this month is Rulers.

The PVFS Song & Story Swap happens the 2ND FRIDAY of every month.  For information contact Paul Kaplan, (413)-253-9484 or Jeff Lee, (413)-256-0433 or visit http://www.filbert.com/pvfs.

Lou & Peter Berryman will give Nov. 6 concert in Amherst

Lou & Peter Berryman at UU in Amherst Nov. 6

PVFS welcomes back the brilliant comic folk collaborators Lou & Peter Berryman, when they will make a concert stop at the UU Meetinghouse in Amherst on Saturday, November 6.

Lou and Peter, who hail from Madison, Wisconsin, invariably leave their audiences chuckling, shaking their heads and singing the infectious Berryman songs to themselves. This marks the first time we have been able to book the pair on a Saturday night, so we hope you will make it a date to come hear them.

The show will take place Saturday, November 6, 7:30 p.m. at the Unitarian Meetinghouse, 121 N. Pleasant St., Amherst, Mass. Tickets are $12 in advance ($14 at the door) and may be purchased at For the Record, 194 N. Pleasant St., Amherst or by contacting Jeff Lee at (413)-256-0433.

Guffaws are guaranteed — Don't miss it!

Bob Blue receives CMN Magic Penny Award

Bob Blue and friendsEach year since 1999 the Evanston, Illinois-based Children's Music Network has bestowed the Magic Penny Award upon an artist who has made an outstanding lifetime contribution to children's music.   On Oct. 10 the 2004 award will be presented to songwriter, essayist and educator Bob Blue of Amherst.  In earning the honor, Bob joins a group of five past winners that includes Malvina Reynolds and Woody Guthrie.

If you've attended a Song and Story Swap, chances are you've received a sampling of Bob's charm, humor and huge heart.  CMN couldn't have made a better choice — congratulations Bob!!
