Storyteller Katie Green will join May 9 Song & Story Swap

Please come share in an evening of music and stories at the May Pioneer Valley Folklore Society SONG & STORY SWAP.

Katie GreenFriday, May 9, 7:30-9:30 p.m. at the Black Sheep Café, 79 Main St., Amherst, Mass.  

Featured as guest performer this month will be storyteller Katie Green. A former speech pathologist, Katie has adapted a penchant for teaching and language to the craft of storytelling. She is known for her skill in finding the heart of a story and bringing characters to life through voice and movement. Her programs and favorite subject areas include ancient Egytian myths, the tales of Hans Christian Andersen, and ghost stories.

Beyond her work as a performer, Katie also serves as a storytelling teacher and organizer. She is past president of the League for the Advancement of New England Storytelling (LANES), was a 1998 recipient of the National Storytelling Association's Service Award, and has taught hundreds in her storytelling classes at Fitchburg State College. Her performances are featured on two audiocassettes and she has a CD, The Red Hat: Adventure Tales for Young People, in the works.

Lyn Hardy hosts A Place To Be on WAMC

Lyn HardyFormer Rude Girl and local luthier, Lyn Hardy, is now living in the Albany, New York area where she produces and hosts a children's music program on WAMC, FM 90.3.  Called A Place To Be, the show airs Monday through Friday at 3:30 p.m.

Lyn's daughter, Ruth Unger, is also making a musical mark as a member of the folk trio, The Mammals.  Hear them along with Dan Hicks & His Hot Licks at the Indoor Action Dome in Greenfield on May 16 before they head off to the Kerrville Folk Festival.
 


1794 Meetinghouse sets summer schedule

1794 Meetinghouse Aspire To The Arts SeriesThe 1794 Meetinghouse in picturesque New Salem has a packed calendar of quality performances lined up for the late spring and summer.

On Thursday evenings at 7:30, May through July, the Inspire Series features performances by local artists including Nick Plakias, Laura Wood, Jose Gonzalez and Yankee Notions.

On Saturdays the Aspire to the Arts Series brings popular performers from all over to the Meetinghouse stage.  Deb Pasternak, Paul Winter, and international prize-winning pianist, Rexton Park, are among this summer's Aspire headliners.
