Tim Van Egmond will be guest artist on February 11

Please come share in an evening of music and stories at the Pioneer Valley Folklore Society Song & Story Swap.

Sunday, February 11 , 7:00-9:00 p.m. at the The Nacul Center, 592 Main St., Amherst, Mass.

Please note that the Song & Story Swap is now held on the second Sunday of each month at The Nacul Center (see map).

Tim Van Egmond will join the Song & Story Swap at the Nacul Center in Amherst on Feb. 11 at 7:00pmGuest performer at the February 11 Song & Story Swap will be folksinger and storyteller Tim Van Egmond.

Tim Van Egmond weaves together tales, tunes, and songs – from the rib-tickling to the spine-tingling to the heart-warming.  He accompanies himself on a wide variety of traditional instruments, including hammered dulcimer, conga drum, and limberjack (a dancing wooden puppet that taps out a rhythm on a paddleboard).  His spellbinding talent, dynamic style, and engaging warmth create a moving and enjoyable experience for all.

Tim has been delighting audiences throughout the country for over 25 years, not only as a solo performer, but also in partnership with Jim Douglas as the duo Yankee Notions and as a member of the popular contradance band, Swallowtail

Renowned author and storyteller Jane Yolen has said of him, "Tim is a triple treat.  He can sing, he can play a variety of wonderful instruments, and he can tell whopping good tales!"

For information about Tim see http://www.timvanegmond.com.

The warm-up theme this month is Pets.Pets

The PVFS Song & Story Swap happens the 2ND SUNDAY of every month.  For information contact Paul Kaplan, (413)-687-5002 or Jeff Lee, (413)-256-0433 or visit http://www.filbert.com/pvfs.

Come to Save Valley Folk! organizational meeting on Feb. 11

Folk music lovers and WFCR listeners who are interested in holding the station accountable for maintaining diversity in its programming are invited to a public organizational meeting on Sunday, February 11, at 1:00 p.m. at the Nacul Center, 592 Main St. in Amherst.

The mission of this group will include restoring Susan Forbes Hansen's popular Valley Folk radio show that was terminated by WFCR after its Jan. 20 final airing.

A more far-reaching objective is to address troubling trends at the Pioneer Valley's public radio station. "Put the public back in public radio," says organizer Carolyn Oppenheim. As a member of Shays2: Western mass. Committee on Corporations and Democracy she has been doing extensive research into how not only WFCR, but many public radio stations across the country have been straying from their original mission of offering alternatives to commercial programming, due to financial pressures, without seeking listener input. Carolyn will present a proposal for a campaign to demand transparency, accountability and citizen input in programming decisions based on citizens' rights to know where tax dollars flow.

Continue to voice your objection to the canceling of Valley Folk by sending an email to WFCR management -- General Manager Martin Miller (miller@wfcr.org), Programming Director Helen Barrington (hbarrington@wfcr.org) and Vice-Provost for University Outreach, Sharon Fross (sfross@outreach.umass.edu). Please copy SaveValleyFolk@justiceandpeace.net.

If you'd like to send a word of support to Susan Forbes Hansen she can be reached at FLKCZARINA@aol.com, or greet her in person at the First Congregational Church in Amherst, 7pm on Feb. 10 where she will introduce Lui Collins at the Not Bread Alone benefit concert.
